"Cancer has been a constant presence in my life: the death of Anne Klein of ovarian cancer early in my career, the seven-year struggle of my husband who ultimately passed away due to lung cancer, and the recent death of my best friend Lynn Kohlman who battled breast and brain cancer until the very end. While physicians and care givers showed incredible dedication and the advances of science cannot be denied, it was shocking that it was the disease being treated, and not the patient. Urban Zen Foundation is dedicated to changing the paradigm of western medicine. The legacy of these people who are so dear to me is the inspiration for the Foundation." - DONNA KARAN
Our focus is to change the current healthcare paradigm to include integrative medicine and promote patient advocacy. We must treat the patient with the same passion we treat the disease by combining western science with nutrition, yoga and eastern healing practices.
Imagine a healthcare system where the patient is treated, not just the disease. Imagine a system where eastern healing techniques, yoga therapy, aromatherapy, and nutrition are used in combination with western medicine in a holistic approach to patient care. In 2009, the Urban Zen Foundation launched the Urban Zen Integrative Therapy Program aimed toward realizing this vision. The groundbreaking, advanced UZIT program includes training in yoga therapy, aromatherapy, reiki, nutrition, and contemplative care education.
